What is labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a plastic surgery procedure to beautify or enhance the appearance of the vagina. This procedure is most often accomplished by shortening the inner labia minora or by sculpting the labia majora or clitoral hood to provide a more appealing aesthetic and youthful appearance.
The reasons for labiaplasty are beyond cosmetic in many cases.
Protruding labia minora or majora (inner and outer lips of the vagina) can be a cause for hygienic issues for some women. Hygenic symptoms for some women can be frequent Urinary Tract Infection (UTIs) or Frequent Yeast Infections.
Pain or discomfort caused by chafing
Pain or discomfort can come from wearing tight fitting clothing or from day to day activities. Women who live an active lifestyle may experience discomfort when participating in athletic activities like cycling or running.
Inflammation or irritation
Inflammation and irritation can also be caused by day-to-day activities like cycling, running and from sexual intercourse among other reasons.
The three most common cosmetic reasons for labiaplasty are:
Visual enhancement is not only for the patient. It may in many cases be for a significant other or spouse.
If you look good, you feel good. Every day we take actions to improve our appearance and therefore raise our self-confidence. Labiaplasty is no different.
Ability to wear form fitting clothing
Form fitting clothing is in fashion today. Many women love wearing leggings or tights, but for some, they may not feel comfortable if the front view of their leggings or form fitting clothing shows too much.
There are many reasons why labia and genitalia on women can be mishapen. For some, the reasons are congenital (from birth), and for others, it may be from having children or giving birth. For others, it may simply be from aging.
Be it for medical reasons, self-confidence or better intimacy; abiaplasty is a procedure that is commonplace and usually takes no longer than one hour to perform.
